Kris Kobach demands personal voter information nationally

Post #1 by TheRealBo » 2 weeks ago

How many investigations have we had on voter fraud that have come up completely empty? How many times has Kris Kobach been smacked down and fined by the courts??

Kris Kobach fined for misleading court and refusing to produce previously exposed Trump memo - LA Times

Folks, this is another Trumpian "LOOK OVER THERE!" distraction for his continued personal failures and the Russia investigation. And WE are paying for the examination of an old conspiracy theory? Ridiculous

Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach co-chairs President Trump's voter fraud commission, which is tasked with finding evidence to support the president's unsubstantiated claim that there was widespread voter fraud in the 2016 election.

Kobach recently sent letters to all 50 states asking them to provide the commission with their entire voter files. The request specifically spelled out sensitive pieces of information the commission wants to obtain, including voters names, party affiliations, military status and the last four digits of voters' Social Security numbers.

As secretary of state, Kobach is tasked with supplying Kansas's data to the Trump commission. There's just one problem: He won't be able to fully comply with his own request.

Kris Kobach says he can’t comply with Kris Kobach’s voter data request - The Washington Post

And the bipartisan chorus of NO has commenced in at least half the states .. some of whom haven't even received the letter!

President Donald Trump’s commission on election integrity is asking all 50 states and the District of Columbia for data from state voter rolls and California, Virginia and many other states have already sent a message right back refusing to do so.

That includes Mississippi’s Secretary of State who responded to the request, “They can go jump in the Gulf of Mexico and Mississippi is a great State to launch from."

Trump's voting commission asks for state voter info, many states say no - The San Diego Union-Tribune

But hey, we can trust Kris and his buddy Donald. They'll keep our personal information private and NEVER consider using it for voter intimidation or role purging .. amiright?

Is this the same commission formed to investigate the 3 million fraudulent votes that gave Hillary the popular vote win?

Data used to micro niche parse the electorate by partisan identification over time and to shape the POV of the persuadables by influencing the stories that they read online and through social media.

Why yes .. yes it is. I remember that conspiracy loon who claimed he had data to support Trump's 3 million claim and then never produced it.

Kobach himself has been investigating in the Land of Oz (Kansas) for years and found i believe a dozen POTENTIAL cases .. no convictions to my knowledge.. just him getting fined and smacked around by judges.

What the idiots love to assume is that just because survivors don't immediately take Aunt Sally off the voter roles .. someone is voting in her name. Or if someone moves from one state to another and registers again, then they're voting twice.

As Brennon Center for Justice reminds us - there is no fixing stupid ..

Btw - these national databases are EXACTLY what the NRA and their minions fear with regard to any sort of national gun registry.

But they're probably A-ok with this.

What is notable about Kobach is his tireless efforts at voter suppression and to deport illegal immigrants. To a lot of right wingers, Democrats support porous borders to harvest future Democratic voters. Kobach has been the most tenacious of those who promote the idea that there is massive voter fraud impacting the tally.

I've yet to figure out what he does as Kansas Secretary of State other than this multi-year failed witch hunt.

Why hasn't their governor told him to cut it out?

Oh wait - this explains EVERYTHING

His role seems to be more involved with national GOP politics than it is something to do with Kansas. He was influential in some of the anti-immigration legislation that came out of Arizona 6–7 years ago.

I don't think this is a distraction from Trump's massive failings in other areas. Voter suppression is front and centre in the Republican agenda because demographics are against them in terms of winning elections in the future. The only way they can ensure this permanent Republican majority they're so keen on (because what dictator doesn't yearn for one-party rule?) is to remove the franchise from segments of the population likely to vote for the other guy.

Much as they're trying to plant the seed in people's minds that democracy is a fatally flawed system that needs replacing with something more acceptable to their moneybags donors, it's going to take time for that mindset to take root. So in the meantime, this is their best way forward - helped, of course, by a Supreme Court that agrees with their agenda.
"They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it's not one half so bad as a lot of ignorance." Terry Pratchett via Granny Weatherwax

“Look towards the Republican Party in America and shudder. ‘Make America Great Again!’ cries a man who is fascist in all but name.” JK Rowling
